Book Review, September 2002

The Art and Elegance of Beadweaving,
Carol Wilcox Wells, hardcover, 160 pages, $27.95.

Rating: 4 stars (out of 4)

Carol does just as good of a job with her second book as she did with her first. She starts with an introduction discussing beads, bead finishes, threads, and needles. She then provides basic instructions and variations for six different techniques - beaded beads, chevron chain, crocheted ropes, herringbone stitch, peyote and spiral rope. The beaded bead section is especially rich, with several different beaded bead techniques including Carol's "Caged Bead".

Each technique has a number of different variations shown with clear diagrams, some in color. There are at least 4 projects to choose from for every technique. The projects range from quick & easy to challenging, and from elegant to fun & funky.

In addition, the book is filled with a stunning gallery of color photos - wonderful for inspiration. All in all, The Art and Elegance of Beadweaving is likely to become as much of a "must have" as Carol's first book.
