April Meeting Program: The format of the April meeting was reversed
and Bo showed slides of incredible African beadwork. She brought books along,
too, with lots of exquisite photos covering both the culture and beadwork of
various tribes. Some are available at the Heartland College Library in Bloomington/Normal.
Beads, Body & Soul by Henry John Drewal and John Mason, ISBN 0930741633 ($45)
is one of Bo's treasures.
Officer's Reports
- Vice President, Laura Kroutil (programs) - Please contact Laura by June
1 if you are interested in a "field trip" to Chicago for bead shopping this
summer.
Laura informed the group that Lisa Claxton, a beading friend in California,
is unable to provide a workshop in June. We may be able to have her for a
date in the fall.
- Secretary, Val Anderson - Ooops! Correction to April minutes: Val made the
greeting card, not her daughter.
- Treasurer, Tammi Andrae - Balance in our treasury is $279.75.
- Library, Diane Faulk - The check-out/in procedure is in place for Society
books and magazines. Both the first and second Miyuki Delica Challenge books
are being added to the library.
- Community Service, Lois Hartwig - Please turn in your finished Bottles of
Hope for delivery to Eureka Oncology nurses. Kathy Anderson-Mason made a Bottle
of Hope for a friend in Tinley Park.
- Annual Member Show, Bo Breda - Space has been secured in the new display
cases at Heartland College Library for our fall show. Dates and times yet
to be determined.
- President, Lois Hartwig - Delivery DEADLINE: Saturday, May 4 Members wishing
to exhibit work at the Peoria Area Stitchers Guild annual luncheon on May
7 need to let Lois know ASAP so reservations and space can be reserved/planned.
Please tag your pieces with your name, title of work, and/or description of
process, stitch, etc.
Connie Mueller has formed an evening group of about nine beaders who meet
at her husband's office in downtown Normal. Contact Connie for more information.
Following the business meeting there was considerable discussion about relaxing
the format of our meetings to include more beading and less business. The
consensus to date is to drop the business meeting portion each month and do
"as needed" while we are beading or quarterly, at most. Officers and committee
chairs will report status of activities via the newsletter. We start in May!
Our sincere appreciation to Diane Faulk for raising a subject many were thinking
about but were hesitant to bring up. Thank you Di, and all the others who
provided input. Your frankness will make this much more fun for everyone,
and a lot less work for one in particular! Yeee Haaa!
Show & Tell
- Cathie Lockwood wore a green, white and black Indian necklace and
completed a blue Spiral Rope bracelet during the meeting!
- Cindy Gotham shared several polymer clay cabochons she made in preparation
for the beaded cabochon workshop. She even had one beaded and just needs to
add the strap!
- Tammi Andrae shared her finished beaded Hardanger ornament and three
new ones in progress.
- Visitor, Carol Zobrist, shared several Christmas ornaments she made
while in Arizona over the winter.
- Lois Draper finished a pair of brick stitch earings.
Hope we didn't miss anyone!
