Volume 2, No. 2, February 2002
We transposed the program and business meeting because Val had out-of-town
company and had to leave at noon. Our thanks to all of you for understanding.

January Program
Val Anderson's program in January on the Daisy Chain was fantastic! We had
no idea how versatile this simple little stitch could be, and once we got the
hang of it, we all produced a variety of fascinating Daisy Chains in a myriad
of colors while we added a neat new skill to our ever expanding repertoire of
stitches.
Officer's Reports
During the business meeting, the following topics were discussed and resolved
as indicated:
- Treasurer's report: $121 in treasury after expenses as of December 2001.

in the kitchen at meetings, otherwise bring a sack lunch and your own drinks.

- The article in the Pantagraph about our Society was very well done and served
its purpose well. Copies will be available to review at the February meeting
if you didn't get a chance to see the article.
Show & Tell
We had so many pretty, interesting things to look at, I'm not sure I can remember
them all! Forgive me if I forget someone! We need to be more organized about
this and go one at a time!!
- Nancy Seidler shared a molded glass, larger than life-size hand that
was filled with beads. One finger was topped with a cork. Cool!
- Linda Garbe shared an exquisite necklace, Tantaliing Textures, she
made in a workshop with Nancy Eha at the 2001 Bead and Button Show.
- Cindy Gotham has been experimenting with jump ring jewelry and shared
a bracelet made entirely of jump rings in two types of wire along with two
books on working with wire.
- Kathy Anderson-Mason shared several tiny projects she's made from
Mill Hill kits - a santa, star, ornaments, and the cutest little bug-eyed
frog! Lois fell in love with the frog and borrowed it to see if she could
replicate it!!
- Diane Faulk shared a collection of lampwork beads she uses in the
Family Strands business she and Jean Hickok "own" as well as a finished
bracelet she was wearing. Beautiful and meaningful!
- Bo Breda reminded us to enter competitions like Beadwork III: The
Beaded Cloth and Bead Dreams. See internet sites below for further information.
- Val Anderson shared a tiny pine-needle basket as well as her Daisy
Chain jewelry!
- Lois Hartwig shared a homemade loom with wire warps and some experimentation
she has been doing with various sizes of wire and beads. (Yes, a la Jeannette
Ahlgren!)
Memberships
New members/visitors: We have an interesting member! When I received a check
for dues from Dina Powers of San Rafael, California, I was a bit
puzzled until I remembered talking to a woman at the 2000 Sugar Creek Arts Festival
who had designed a beautiful peacock evening bag. During the course of our brief
visit, she mentioned she was from California but had family in the Bloomington/Normal
area, and I began to wonder if this member was the same person. Sure enough,
I found Dina's design published in the October 1999, Issue #33 of Bead &
Button magazine and confirmed my suspicions. Welcome Dina, and thank you for
supporting our group. We look forward to meeting you the next time you visit
Bloomington, or maybe at the Bead and Button Show in June.
New Publications
Beading with Herringbone Stitch by Vicki Star
A little bit of history, excellent technical drawings, and beautiful projects.
Lots of color pictures, too, for inspiration. Herringbone and Ndebele are the
same stitch.
